Quantum Technology and Cryptography of the Future:
Trends, Challenges, Solutions

The pace of technological advancements is so high that it inevitably leads to immense amounts of unprotected data. Ensuring the safety of this data is one of the most critical scientific challenges. Most modern data protection systems require considerable improvement and can only complete a limited number of tasks.

According to forecasts by IDC, almost 40% of data will be handled by cloud services already this year, which will considerably increase the demand for quantum technology and cryptography as a sizeable amount of data sent to the cloud should be protected. Quantum technology and cryptography are the main drivers of data encryption and ensure its safety not only for government needs but also for modern businesses.

From 20 to 28 April, Saint Petersburg will become a mecca for cryptography and cybersecurity specialists from all over the world.

On the 20 April, an international forum 'Quantum Technology and Cryptography of the Future: Trends, Challenges, Solutions' will be hosted by the Kryptonite Research and Production company and Rostelecom and sponsored by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) as well as by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Vedomosti business magazine will be a partner of this business programme.

Along with the forum's main open programme, representatives of ISO and ITU international subcommittees will meet in private on 21 and 28 April. The series of these events dedicated to the development of cryptography and quantum technologies will thus form the international Information Protection Week.

The international forum creates an opportunity for dialogue and cooperation between businesses, science and the government, which makes it one of the most significant international IT events in 2020.

The international forum 'Quantum Technology and Cryptography of the Future: Trends, Challenges, Solutions' will be attended by representatives of the leading countries in cryptography and cybersecurity: Russia, UK, USA, Germany, France, Japan, China, South Korea etc.

The forum participants will discuss new methods, techniques and principles in addressing security and privacy problems—everything that will change our world in the future.

Audience

The list of forum participants will include scientists and experts, representatives of governmental agencies and public authorities in the field of communication, technology and digital development as well as leaders and heads of cybersecurity departments of the major technology companies, including Microsoft, IBM, Google, Mastercard and others.

April 20, 2020

09:00 - 10:00 Registration
10:00 - 11:45 Opening plenary session. Quantum Technology and Cryptography of the Future: Trends, Challenges, Solutions*
11:45 - 12:30 Coffee break

12:30 - 14:30 Parallel sessions of the international conferences «Security of the Future: Cryptography 2021» and «Quantum Information Technology for Networks»

12:30 - 14:30 Strategic session of the «Security of the Future: Cryptography 2021» conference. Security of the Future: Preparing for New Challenges

2020 has arrived and it is time to prepare for the new challenges of ensuring information security of the future. By 2021, the way we treat information security, cryptography and data security will fundamentally change. The main trends and tendencies are proof of that. For this purpose, an inextricable combination of applied research, Russian scientific achievements and modern domestic technologies is developing the means to combat new threats to the digital economy. What means can be used to combat these threats in future is the issue to be discussed by the session's participants.

The focus of the discussion
  • Major trends and developments in cryptography and information security today.
  • «Made in Russia»: scientific research, development and solutions in the area of information security and cryptography. How can they help business and the State?
  • The digital transformation of corporations: efficiency vs security. Is it possible to prevent threats?
  • National and international standardization in the cryptographic protection of information. Would it affect the speed of technology implementation?
  • Regulatory methods of personal data protection: foreign experience and the Russian way.
  • Cryptographic methods for personal data protection: prospects for the new approach.
12:30 - 14:30 «Quantum Information Technology for Networks» conference session. Quantum computing

It is believed that a quantum computer has far superior computing power than a classic computer with potential applications such as optimizing big data and developing new materials and molecular functions. The computing power provided with quantum computing will not only improve the performance of information processing, but also become a threat to the security of existing communication networks.

The focus of the discussion

  • Research and development in the field of quantum computing technologies.
  • Threats to information security caused by quantum computing.
  • Possible solutions to quantum computing application problems.

14:30 - 15:30 Lunch
15:30 - 17:00 Parallel sessions of the international conferences «Security of the Future: Cryptography 2021» and «Quantum Information Technology for Networks»

15:30 - 17:00 «Quantum Information Technology for Networks» conference session. Quantum communication

Quantum communication is more than just a quantum key distribution (QKD), while QKD is the most frequent and most researched QIT application today. QKD provides absolute security based on the principles of quantum mechanics. Quantum main lines of communication have been created and satellite-based QKD experiments have been conducted over the past 10 years.

The focus of the discussion
  • Innovative QKD technologies.
  • Applications and examples of QKD usage.
  • Prospects for implementing products and technologies.
  • Future development trends.

15:30 - 17:00 «Security of the Future: Cryptography 2021» conference. Monopoly or diversity: cryptography in new telecommunication technologies

The digital economy, 5G and new communication standards have opened up limitless possibilities for everyone. Technology companies offer the most unique and advanced inventions. Hype is in charge. But what about security? Won't it be too late to find a «loophole» in the information security? All of these issues will be discussed by the session's participants.

The focus of the discussion
  • 5G: new opportunity or new security threat?
  • «Forgotten» RFID: prospects for the main mass identification system.
  • Cryptography in IoT and M2M: new Russian security standards for industrial systems.
  • Personal data in a «smart city» ecosystem: protection specifics.
17:00 - 17:30 Coffee break
18:30 - 20:00 Completion of the business agenda for the international forum «Quantum Technologies and Cryptography of the Future: Trends, Challenges, Solutions.» Evening Cocktail Party.
